Position Title: Farmers Market Lead Packer

Location: Hergotz                           Department: Packing Crew                       

Reports To: This position is a staff position working under the supervision of the JBG Barn Manager (Tracy Whitehead). This employee coordinates closely with the Operations Manager (Krishna), JBG Farmers Market Staff Scheduler (Fawn), Packing Shed Manager (Tim), Barn Manager (Tracy), and Farmer Owner/Manager (Brenton).

Schedule and General Duties: This is a full time position. The general time requirement for this position is about 40 to 45 hours per week. The schedule is Monday, Thursday-Sunday. The job duties and shift times are approximately as follows.

Monday: Start time 10:30; Same shift as packing shed crew

Duties:
  • Gather Inventory Sheets / Market Notes and Sent Numbers into a single packet for Krishna to scan (for meet at market hours)
  • Write Market Roundup and send to all Department Heads and Market Managers (see attached current email list)
  • Write a To-do list for market pallet needs, and a Weekly Receipt for Merch Sales, while compiling Market Roundup
  • Follow Harvest Management Guide to update Inventory with previous week's data
  • Amend following week's send numbers per inventory requests
  • Print harvest numbers for the week and place on a clipboard for Wednesday Packing, hang it out by the old market cooler.
  • Print Market Notes for Wednesday Markets and place in Merch Bins (Mueller + Dripping)
  • Respond to emails from various site market managers (as needed, mostly need to respond by Thursday)
  • Check in with Krishna for any additional market to dos
  • Write Tracy an email about any maintenance needed (tents and tables, and stuff)
  • Fill out What are You Bringing this Week Forms, and write a promotional email to all markets.
Repairs/Restocking:
  • Write a to-do list for market pallet needs
  • Make sure all credit card machines are properly charged and operational or scheduled for repair/replacement
  • Inform the JBG Service Manager at River Rd and the Operations Manager of any needed vehicle repairs.
Barn:
  • Wash table cloths
  • Inform Tim and Tracy each Monday about the weekend shortages, concerns and compliments.
 

Tuesday + Wednesday: Off

 

Thursday: Start time 10:30am; Same as daytime packing shed crew

Duties:
  • Prepare the market pallets
  • Check in on the status of vehicle repairs and tent and table repairs
  • Assist the packing shed crew
 

Friday: Start time 10:30am; Same as daytime packing shed crew

Duties:
  • Prepare the farmers market pallets 
  • Make sure all tents and tables are fully functional
  • Make sure market pallets are fully stocked with red shopping bins, clean tablecloths, functional tables, working cash registers, and scales
  • Make sure all credit card machines are properly charged and operational
  • Add any last minute flyers to the market bins if needed
  • Communicate with market staff any necessary information prior to market such as schedule changes or other important last minute information
 

Saturday: Start time 12pm; You would lead the market employees conducting their regular Saturday activities after the market shift.

After Farmers Market Duties:
  • Drive the forklift and assist with unloading trucks
  • Direct all market managers returning from market in assigned end of shift duties
  • Moving pallets to the cooler
  • Refresh produce
  • Wash bins
  • Empty trash
  • Clean docks
  • Supervise cash drop
  • Making sure all market bins returned to office and all reports put away
  • Serve as point of contact for subs and new employees
  • Seasonally make sure tomatoes returned from Saturday are repacked and sorted properly for Sunday markets.
 

Sunday: 7am – 3 pm

Duties:

In office, get all merchandise bins, money bags from safe, keys for trucks and CC machines
  • Pull any additional items to send to market from coolers (eggs, flowers, tomatoes, onions, etc)
  • Pack eggs with ice packs in coolers
  • Distribute each market's additional items
  • Make sure all the market managers arrive to barn on time
  • Make sure each market takes off on time, help markets that need to leave early
  • Pack your own truck
  • Give reminders about new crops, new prices, things to remember, etc
 

Compensation & Benefits: $13/hour is paid bi-weekly. Permanent employees are eligible for Individual Health Plan benefits. All JBG employees receive a weekly share of vegetables and a bi-weekly share of eggs.
