Thanks for your interest in becoming a CSA member.
Below is information about how our CSA works and how to sign-up for a membership.
Our Farm
Johnson's Backyard Garden is a small diversified vegetable farm. We grow around 60 different vegetable types and nearly 300 different varieties. We also offer fresh eggs laid by free range chickens from the Ringger Family Farm in Smithville and organic/fair trade coffee from Texas Coffee Traders.
What to expect as a JBG member:
Each week, JBG fills the ½ bushel sized vegetable boxes that constitute a member share with an average of 8-12 different types of seasonal, organically grown vegetables, fruits and herbs. Members receive a wide variety of foods harvested at their peak of freshness, ripeness, flavor, vitamin and mineral content. Each vegetable box is typically enough for a family of 2-4 for a week depending on cooking habits and the amount of vegetables eaten, and members can choose a weekly or bi-weekly pickup based on their needs. Vegetable boxes are $32 per box for a 4-week memberships ($128 total) and $30 per box for a 10-week memberships ($300 total). Members can also add free range eggs for $5.00 per dozen or $2.50 per ½ dozen and/or organic fair/trade coffee for $10.00 a pound.
What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a direct partnership between the consumer and the farmer. The CSA member buys a share of the farm at the beginning of a growing season. In exchange, the farmer grows exceptionally high quality vegetables, herbs, and fruits. Every week, the produce is picked and immediately delivered to local drop off sites, where members pick up their shares. This arrangement is ecologically sound because it reduces the long-distance trucking involved in much of today's produce delivery. In addition, all the produce is organically grown; this method of growing food is healthier and more environmentally sustainable for the consumer, agricultural worker, and the land itself.
