Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
Community Supported Agriculture is a direct partnership between the consumer and the farmer. CSA members pay in advance for a share of the upcoming harvest, thus the farmer is ensured a consistent market and the consumer is ensured high-quality local produce. Produce is picked, packed and delivered to a neighborhood pick-up location all on the same day.
Benefits of CSA
- Nutritional - our produce is harvested at the peak of ripeness and is at its freshest when received by our CSA members, enhancing its flavor, and vitamin and mineral content. All our products are organic and contain no harmful herbicide or pesticide residues.
- Environmental - our produce is not shipped long distances to get to our CSA members and our organic production methods maintain the health of our land.
- Economic - our CSA shares are competitively priced and buying locally helps maintain the economic health of your community.
- Variety - we grow around 50 different crops, many of which are not found in stores.
Our CSA Membership Includes:
- A weekly share of seasonal organic vegetables, fruits and herbs at a competitive price.
- An informative weekly newsletter that includes recipes and details about how to store and handle your produce as well as news of the farm.
- Convenient online payment and online management of your CSA subscription
- Prompt phone or email response to your questions or comments.
- Member events such as a seasonal open house at our home and farm so you can see where your food is grown and meet the people who produce it.
Box Contents
Each week members receive a box with a variety of 8-12 seasonal, organically grown vegetables, fruits and herbs. We grow over 100 different crops, see the "What's Growing" sidebar and our seasonal harvest calendar for a list of what is currently available for the box. Some of the crops we grow are unusual and cannot be found in most stores; we make an effort to balance these unusual crops with more familiar ones in each week's box. We also partner with other local growers to provide organic fruit such as apples and citrus.
Depending on eating habits, one share is generally sufficient for a family of four for one week. A vegetarian family who rarely eats out will need more than the weekend gourmet, so some families split a share with another family, while others get two shares.
Optional Box Additions
Free-range eggs and fair-trade organic coffee from Texas Coffee Traders may also be added to your share.

Why Buy Local
CSA Host Requirements
JBG is always looking for new delivery locations that are convenient for our members. If you're interested in becoming a CSA host, there are a few things you should consider.
What you need:
- A shady, covered carport or porch, preferably that's air-conditioned.
- Space for at least 10 CSA boxes.
- Convenient parking for other members to drop by and pick up their boxes.
- A pickup site that's accessible every week from mid-afternoon (around 3 p.m.) until 7 p.m.
What you do:
- Hosts store empty boxes until our delivery driver picks them up the following week. JBG asks that you put away the boxes that day or the next.
- After the delivery period ends, you distribute unclaimed veggies to charity or a needy family.
- You do not have to be present during pickup hours. Pickups are self-serve and on the honor system.
Perks:
- Hosts receive a complimentary CSA box every quarter.
JBG will work with you to determine which weekday fits best with the delivery route and schedule. If you're interested in becoming a CSA host, please email farm@jbgorganic.com.
